NECAGUARD INSURANCE UPDATE

FLOOD INSURANCE

The devastating floods that have swept through Queensland and Victoria have raised serious concerns amongst householders and businesses about the adequacy of the insurance cover they hold.

The consensus of opinion; as communicated through the press, is that some householders do have full flood cover (depending on the insurer they have selected), but most businesses do not. There are a small number of insurers in the market offering flood cover to the business community, but their ability to offer cover is often restricted based on the geographic region in which the business is located.

We are concerned that some NECA Members who have been affected by the floods and who hold a NECAGUARD Business Pack Policy; may assume that they do not have flood cover and have not contacted InterRISK regarding their loss.

As members will be aware, InterRISK has been able to negotiate a superior suite of insurance policies for NECA members. In particular the NECAGUARD Business Pack Policy incorporates many additional benefits, one of these benefits includes full flood cover.

IF YOU HAVE A NECAGUARD BUSINESS PACK POLICY, YOU HAVE FULL FLOOD COVER.

THIS COVER HAS NO SUB-LIMIT AND IS IN PLACE TO THE VALUE OF THE FULL SUM INSURED ON PROPERTY. MOREOVER, THE BUSINESS INTERRUPTION SECTION OF THE POLICY WILL ALSO RESPOND TO A FLOOD LOSS.

If you hold a NECAGUARD policy; and you have sustained any type of flood related damage, please contact us immediately.

The Team at NECA are available to take your call. The NECA Hotline Number is 1800 638 554.

Our Claims Manager, Michael Roach, can also be contacted directly on 02 9346 8082.

As a special service to all NECA Members, InterRISK is also available to provide free advice to Members not insured through the NECAGUARD scheme. If you have concerns over the extent of coverage you hold under your existing policy and wish to seek an objective view of your current position, we are here to help. Just call the Hotline number and we will endeavour to assist.

Documentation for Flood Work

NECA has been working with authorities and advisors nationwide to develop appropriate documentation to adequately cover the testing and rectification of electrical wiring for flood affected buildings. The following forms should only be used by licensed electrical contractors.

Verification of Electrical Wiring for Flood Affected Buildings

Before reconnecting power to any building that has been inundated with flood waters it is important to confirm that the electrical installation is safe. A procedure for rectification and verification of the installation to the requirement of AS/NZS3000 is provided for the use of members.

Workplace Health and Safety for Repairs After Floods

It is critical that all rectification and verification work is conducted in a safe manner. Workplace Health and Safety Queensland has produced a useful reference document covering many of the potential safety issues.
